Bolivia - Uyuni: Part 1

The train cemetry. We were a bit bored and so had to make it a bit more fun!

The Fish Island in the middle of the Salt Flats. Very bizarre. The salt is thought to originate from a lagoon - so it was once a normal island.

A Pre-Inca Cemetry. Some of the skeletons still had skin on - very wierd. Don't know whether I like looking in tombs.







The Salt Hotel was really nice and did keep in the warmth a little. The lonely planet states that it is an illegal structure however. I wonder if they thought about what happens if it rains?!

Bolivia - Uyuni: Part 2

There were hundreds of flamingos on each lagoon. Beautiful creatures.



This shot took a lot of effort. It was really difficult to get a decent picture of the flamingos with our camara.



The cooks fed is with the full works wherever we were and whatever the weather. It was great. I think corned beef fried in egg was the wierdest thing we ate.

Our tour group for the second part at our second nights accomodation. It was extremely cold and possibly the worst night's sleep we had as we were sharing the room with another 3 people - 1 of which set the alarm for 3.30am. Nice.





We got up at 4am to see this sunrise. It was impressive, but I don't think I have ever felt so cold. The temperatures were subzero and it was thermals all the way.

With frost on the ground we somehow managed to strip off and climb into the glorious natural hotsprings.

It was the first time we had been warm for days. Getting out was a different story. Martin's shorts froze instead of dried!!

Bolivia - Uyuni: Part 3

The desert. We went around in a convoy of 3 jeeps.

Bolivia - La Paz - Sept 2007

La Paz. A gorgeous city. Very hard to walk around though because of the altitude and steep hills. Good training for the Inca Trail.

The Cathedral. The only photo I could get was from the coach as we left. Camaras on display are not a good idea!

The Coca factory. Coca leaves fix everything in Bolivia and Peru!!

An interesting way to get the ferries across Lake Titicaca. The rafts did not look the most sturdy either. Note the lads with the sticks steering the rafts. Bet they had coca leaves.

Brazil

We arrived in Brazil on the 27th August. Our transfer didn´t turn up (surprise surprise) so we had to pay for another taxi.

The 1st day we were too scared to take anything out with us, so unfortunately we didn´t get an photos of Copacabana or Ipanema beaches.


The next day we attempted to go to Sugar Loaf - but they advised us against it!!

Ilha Grande

It would have been great if the weather was nice!

The Argentinian side of the IguaÇu Falls - takes your breath away. Absolutely unbelievable.

The calm before the storm. We later went on a boat trip through the falls - rather different!!

This cave in Bonito was beautiful. The man said that there are 2 options for the colour of the water - either a scientific one or that they put blue dye in it?!

Martin looking good. For anyone that has watched League of Gentlemen - he reminds me of the cave guide in that. Nice!

We slept in hammocks. It´s quite difficult trying to get in a sleeping bag and in a hammock after a few Caiprinias (Brazilian drink)!

There were loads of Caimens - like small alligators.

Before we went Piranha fishing.....

Very safe - hooks flying around and Piranhas and Caimens in the water! In this photo I was being eaten alive by these little fish - they nearly bit a mole off my leg so I had to get out.

The Pantanal Jungle - this is our group and the local guides. We were ferried around in the back of the trucks - optimal comfort!

Honeymoon - Maldives (Filitheyo resort)

The gorgeous paradise that is the Maldives. A token`postcard` photo.

The night fishing trip wasn´t all it was cracked up to be (when you didn´t catch anything)!

On our way snorkelling. It was amazing - such a variety of sea life. The only problem was Martin was petrified of the fish!! What a protective husband he´s going to be!

Apart from eat and drink - this is mainly what we did!
